River Farm Story - the legacy.

William Jones a ploughman from Hereford, England: who immigrated to New Zealand in 1864 on board the good ship Eagle Speed. During the journey he heard of riches made in the gold fields on the west coast and caught the ‘the gold fever’.

William was not successful in his search for gold and decided to turn to his skill and craft in farming and acclaimed son of the soil, purchased some fine land in Marlborough.

The love of the land was passed down the Jones generations, expanding their land ownership in the Wairau Valley and in 1992 the long established Starborough homestead in the Awatere Valley. Starborough was the second sheep run established on the south side of the Awatere River in 1849.
